THE IDEA FOR GOOD BUSINESS INTERNATIONAL, Inc.™ (GoodB) was hatched in the minds of the Good Business founders. The concept had been forming for a few years as they traveled around the U.S., Canada, and Europe as leaders in the humane capitalism movement. Audiences were enthusiastic over the positive changes occurring in business. Standing in the United Nations as invited speakers one afternoon in the fall of 2006 among skeptics and idealists, GoodB's founders realized the movement for better business needed a bigger platform, perhaps one with the reach of the U.N. – a global community of similarly visionary 21st century corporations, organizations, and individuals dedicated to building a better world by enlisting the active participation of business. In 2006, dozens of groups were already walking the path of a more conscious and humane pursuit of profit. Some were interested in creating a more compassionate workplace. Others were interested in bringing Fortune 500s into the fold. Others were economists developing new business theories. Still others were focused on social activism and garnering the support of maverick entrepreneurs who saw the need for change. Groups were corporate, civic, academic, activist, faith-based or spiritual. Several endorsed social responsibility for individuals and corporations. Many non-profit and for-Profit organizations focused on environmental sustainability and saving the planet. All were civic minded and examined the effects of business activity on the greater community. It was called responsible business, sustainable business, social business, conscious business, green business, enlightened business, integral business, conscious capitalism, compassionate capitalism, spiritual capitalism, and many variations of these. Whatever is was called, it was clear a revolution was going on. Yet, the movement was fragmented in many different parts that were not connected. How to bring the community together under one roof and by doing so create a vortex of powerful energy that would advance the cause of better business more rapidly? Good Business International, Inc.™ (GoodB) was the answer. But what to call this movement for better business – this revolution of so many names? We chose to call it Good Business as it seemed to envelope all the faces of the better business revolution. The community is full of people like you. People who think that Good business is not only possible, but necessary. Media outlets, non-profit and for-profit organizations, community and civic groups, progressives, traditionalists, economists, academics, entrepreneurs, writers, thinkers, leaders, and ordinary individuals who see the mandate for change in our profit making world. GoodB invites you to join the community of Good Business. GoodB is an open access global community for all who wish to participate. Good Business is a movement that belongs to no one and everyone. We are all a part of it by virtue of being alive. Each of us are founders in this movement simply by recognizing the world we have inherited urgently needs our help and we must do what we can.
